MBA students at the University of Bedfordshire are helping Buttle’s to develop its future strategy. After being briefed about the company’s objectives, four competing teams of students developed alternative plans for growth and presented them to Operations Director Phil Norton and Managing Director William Naylor at the university’s Postgraduate Centre.
Two teams focused on the company’s overall business strategy, while the others developed Human Resource Strategies. Academics Dr Pauline Loewenberger and Professor Stephen Hyde advised the teams, which all produced interesting and workable ideas.
Afterward, Professor Hyde said that Buttle’s had provided an excellent case study. “MBA students spend a lot of time studying big companies. An SME like Buttle’s is very different- there’s a lot more practice than theory, and meeting hands-on directors like William and Phil gives the students a feel for real business” he said. “We are keen to involve more local companies in this type of project- if you are interested, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org ”
